Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the decision by United States President Donald Trump to suspend Project Freedom in the Strait of Hormuz for a short period. The prime minister described the move as bold, timely, and positive for regional peace.
In a statement shared on social media, Shehbaz Sharif said the decision came after requests from Pakistan and several friendly countries. He specifically mentioned Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their role in supporting diplomatic efforts.
The prime minister stated that the suspension of Project Freedom could help reduce tensions in the region. He added that the development may encourage peace, stability, and reconciliation among countries involved in the conflict.
Shehbaz Sharif also reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for dialogue and peaceful solutions. He said Pakistan would continue encouraging restraint and de-escalation instead of military confrontation.
According to reports, former US President Donald Trump announced that the United States and Iran had agreed to temporarily suspend Project Freedom. The decision was reportedly taken after discussions with Pakistan and other countries.
Trump shared the announcement on Truth Social. He claimed the move followed what he described as a major military success against Iran and progress toward a possible agreement with Iranian representatives.
The US president stated that while the overall blockade would remain active, ship movement operations under Project Freedom would be paused temporarily. The suspension is intended to create space for negotiations and to assess whether a final agreement can be reached.
The initiative was originally launched to ensure the safety of commercial ships and crew members passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The route is considered one of the world’s most important oil shipping lanes.
The United States had earlier warned Iran against interfering with maritime operations in the area. American officials had also threatened serious consequences if attacks targeted US vessels or humanitarian missions.
Under the operation, US forces reportedly targeted Iranian fast boats operating near the Strait of Hormuz. The tensions increased after Iran rejected new proposals aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.
Political observers believe the temporary halt in operations may reduce pressure in the region. Many experts say diplomatic engagement could help avoid further escalation in the Middle East.
Pakistan has repeatedly called for peaceful negotiations and regional stability. Officials believe dialogue remains the best path forward for resolving disputes and preventing wider conflict.
