Saudi Arabia has taken a significant step towards digitalizing travel by introducing the first phase of E-gates at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport. The initiative, launched by the Saudi General Directorate of Passports, aims to enhance passenger travel procedures through the use of biometric e-passport scanners.

The introduction of E-gates is expected to streamline travel processes for citizens, expatriates, and visitors by automating procedures and utilizing stored biometric data within the passport system. Lt-Gen. Sulaiman Al Yahya, Chief of the General Directorate of Passports, highlighted the goal of revolutionizing travel procedures and providing intelligent and efficient digital solutions.

Abdulaziz Al Duailej, head of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), emphasized the importance of the new service introduced at international departure halls 3 and 4. This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector aspirations and national aviation strategy objectives, aiming to diversify revenue streams and accommodate a projected annual influx of 330 million air travelers by 2030.
