UK’s Turkish Community Advised to Remain Calm During Riots

The British Turkish Association (BTA) called for unity and caution among the Turkish community in the UK after recent violent incidents by far-right extremists. BTA President Murat Sukru Acar stressed the need for social peace and urged the community to remain calm and resist provocations. He expressed concern over the unrest caused by recent far-right violence, particularly highlighting incidents in Southport.

Acar emphasized that these are challenging times, and unity and solidarity are crucial. He acknowledged that Prime Minister Keir Starmer and government officials are taking significant steps to address the violence and maintain order, while the police are enhancing security nationwide. He urged the Turkish community to act responsibly and collectively to overcome these threats.

Amid a surge of anti-Muslim disinformation on social media, which has fueled Islamophobic violence following a fatal stabbing in Southport, Acar highlighted the importance of not succumbing to provocations. The violence, driven by false claims and extremist rhetoric, has led to significant unrest, with over 400 arrests reported in recent days.
