Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra, popularly known as the “He-Man of Bollywood,” passes away at the age of 89. He breathed his last at his residence in Mumbai after battling age-related complications and breathing issues.
The actor had been admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on October 31 due to deteriorating health. During this period, false news about his death circulated, causing distress for his family and the film industry. Following the misinformation, the family decided to move him home, where he continued treatment on a ventilator.
This morning, a special ambulance was seen outside his Mumbai home. His wife, Hema Malini, and daughter, Esha Deol, arrived dressed in traditional white mourning attire. Filmfare officially confirmed that Dharmendra had passed away through a social media post.
Born as Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol in Ludhiana, Punjab, he married Prakash Kaur in 1954 at the age of 19. Later, he fell in love with his “Sholay” co-actress Hema Malini, marrying her in May 1980.
Dharmendra had a career spanning six decades, earning fame for his versatile performances and charismatic presence. He starred in numerous hit films and became a household name across India. His contributions to Bollywood made him one of the most respected actors of his generation.
He is survived by his wife Hema Malini and six children: actors Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Esha Deol, Ahana Deol, Ajeeta, and Vijeta. A special poster for his film Ikkis was released just a day before his death, making it the final project of his life, set to release on December 25.
Fans, colleagues, and the film industry have expressed profound grief at the passing of Dharmendra. His cinematic legacy, iconic performances, and contributions to Indian cinema will be remembered for generations.
