PIA to Restart Islamabad–London Direct Flights on March 29 After Six Years

PIA to Restart Islamabad–London Direct Flights on March 29 After Six Years

Pakistan International Airlines has announced the resumption of its London flights after a long suspension. PIA will restart direct flights from Islamabad to London from March 29, 2026. The move ends a six-year break in operations on this key international route.

An airline spokesperson confirmed that PIA will operate four flights per week between Islamabad and London. All flights will land at Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 4. The terminal offers modern facilities and smoother transit for international passengers.

The new service will improve travel options for passengers flying to the United Kingdom. At present, travelers can use PIA’s three weekly flights to Manchester. The addition of London flights is expected to reduce travel pressure on the Manchester route.

Sources said the airline recently secured approval for four weekly flight slots at Heathrow Airport. These slots had earlier been assigned to Turkish Airlines. The arrangement helped keep the slots active while PIA’s UK operations were suspended.

Officials explained that this temporary allocation ensured the slots were not lost. Heathrow rules require regular usage of allocated slots. During the suspension period, this step protected the airline’s long-term interests.

With restrictions now easing, the airline has formally informed Heathrow Airport in writing. The letter confirmed its decision to resume London operations from March 2026. Preparations for flight schedules and ground handling are now underway.

The timing of the announcement is also linked to PIA’s recent privatization. The government has sold a 75 percent stake in the airline to a consortium led by Arif Habib Corporation. The deal was completed for Rs135 billion.

After the takeover, the consortium shared plans to strengthen the airline. It aims to expand the fleet to 64 aircraft in phases. The expansion is expected to improve route coverage and service reliability.

Fauji Fertiliser Company Limited has also joined the Arif Habib-led consortium. The company will provide financial backing and corporate expertise. It will also play a role in the airline’s management structure.
