Thousands of students enrolled under the Maryam Nawaz Honhar scholarship programme are facing uncertainty due to delays in the release of their latest installments. The delay is causing serious concerns about students’ educational futures.
With university fee deadlines approaching, many students have not yet received their scholarship payments. Some universities have begun issuing warnings to scholarship holders over unpaid fees, adding stress to already anxious students.
The Maryam Nawaz Honhar scholarship programme supports around 85,000 students across 100 higher education institutions in Punjab. The delay, officials say, is due to universities failing to submit required result invoices to release the funds.
Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairman Dr Iqrar confirmed that only 25 out of 100 institutions had submitted the necessary invoices so far. He explained that the scholarship funds cannot be released until the documents are received.
Dr Iqrar added that universities have been given one week to submit all pending invoices. He warned that any failure to comply could result in scholarship cancellation. The chairman urged institutions to act promptly to prevent disruption to students’ education.
The delay has left thousands of students anxious, as tuition fees and other educational expenses depend on timely scholarship disbursement. Students have expressed concern about missing deadlines and potential interruptions to their studies.
Officials stressed that the scholarship programme aims to support students financially and ensure access to higher education. However, the timely cooperation of universities is critical to making the program effective and reliable.
