Geekbench 7 has officially been released by Primate Labs with several major improvements for performance testing. The latest version introduces updated workloads for gaming, photo editing, image processing, and machine learning. One of the biggest additions in Geekbench 7 is the new Game Physics workload. This test is powered by the Jolt Physics engine and measures how well a device performs complex physics calculations. The new workload gives users a better understanding of gaming performance. It also helps compare how different devices handle demanding game physics under similar conditions.
Primate Labs has also improved the Photo Editor workload. The updated benchmark now includes a wider range of image-editing tasks that users perform in real-life situations. This allows the benchmark to better represent the performance of devices during photo editing.
Another important update is the Photo Library workload. It now supports importing and processing JPEG XL and DNG image formats. These formats are becoming more common among photographers and content creators, making the benchmark more relevant for modern devices.
The latest release also introduces significant changes to multi-core testing. Instead of forcing every workload to use multiple CPU cores, Geekbench 7 only runs tasks as multi-core tests when those tasks normally use multiple cores in real-world applications.
Primate Labs says this approach prevents benchmark scores from being artificially increased. As a result, users can expect performance numbers that more closely match everyday device usage.
Because of this change, the HTML5 browser workload has been removed from multi-core testing. The company explained that this workload does not normally require multiple CPU cores during regular use.
GPU benchmarking has also received a major update. Instead of focusing mainly on traditional 3D graphics rendering, Geekbench 7 now places greater emphasis on content creation and machine learning tasks.
The updated GPU tests include processing face filters commonly used in social media apps. They also measure image upscaling with machine learning and virtual background creation for video conferencing applications. These workloads reflect how many people use modern devices today.
Primate Labs believes these changes make the benchmark more useful for consumers, developers, and hardware reviewers. The updated tests are intended to provide a clearer picture of overall device performance across a variety of everyday tasks.
