Adviser to the Finance Minister Khurram Shehzad said on Sunday that record remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis reflect growing confidence in the government and economy.
He stated that remittances in December 2025 exceeded $3.6 billion, showing a significant increase compared to previous periods. This amount is 17% higher than December 2024 and 13% higher than November 2025.
Shehzad added that during the first half of fiscal year 2026, total remittances reached $19.7 billion, marking a 41% increase compared to the same period last year. He expressed optimism that total remittances for fiscal year 2026 would surpass $41 billion.
Providing a country-wise breakdown, the adviser said that Saudi Arabia contributed the highest remittances in December 2025, amounting to $813 million. The United Arab Emirates followed with $726 million, the United Kingdom sent $560 million, and the United States contributed $302 million.
He highlighted that this increase in remittances underscores the vital role of overseas Pakistanis in supporting the national economy. Shehzad noted that consistent inflows not only strengthen foreign reserves but also contribute to economic stability and sustainable development.
The adviser further said that remittances play a crucial role in household income for many families and help reduce the trade deficit. Their steady growth signals confidence in Pakistanโs economic policies and the governmentโs ability to manage the economy effectively.
Khurram Shehzad expressed hope that continued engagement of the diaspora would support long-term economic growth, create job opportunities, and contribute to a brighter future for Pakistan. He urged overseas Pakistanis to continue their valuable support to the country.
Experts say that rising remittances also reflect improved banking channels and government initiatives to facilitate digital transfers. This trend is expected to continue as policies supporting overseas workers remain in place.
The record remittances in December 2025 and the strong first-half performance of fiscal year 2026 indicate resilience in Pakistanโs economy and growing trust among the Pakistani diaspora.
