Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed that over AED 2 million in cash, around 35,000 electronic devices, and 3,000 passports were recovered from taxis across the emirate in 2025. The data comes from more than 104,000 lost-property reports managed by the RTA’s Lost and Found Team.
The RTA works closely with taxi companies and drivers to ensure forgotten items are quickly returned to their owners. The process includes verifying trip details, tracking vehicle movements, and coordinating directly with drivers. Most lost items are located, and owners contacted, within two hours of filing a report.
Commonly recovered items include cash, smartphones, laptops, tablets, passports, jewelry, and other valuables. The Call Centre provides services in multiple languages, including Arabic, English, Urdu, Hindi, Filipino, French, Chinese, and Russian, reflecting Dubai’s diverse population.
Many taxi drivers, particularly Pakistanis, were praised for their honesty and cooperation. They promptly hand in lost items, ensuring safe and timely return to passengers. Pakistani taxi drivers, forming a large part of Dubai’s transport workforce, are widely regarded as among the most trustworthy in the city.
Industry officials said that taxi drivers’ dedication and integrity play a key role in maintaining Dubai’s reputation for excellent customer service. Passengers regularly commend drivers who return lost property, further encouraging honesty across the sector.
The RTA emphasized that the collaboration between drivers and the Lost and Found Team is essential. By combining technology with driver accountability, Dubai ensures its taxi services remain reliable and secure for residents and visitors alike.
