LAHORE โ As Basant 2026 approaches, Lahore authorities have issued strict rules to ensure the festival remains safe and enjoyable. The city administration has imposed a complete ban on kite flying in parks, green belts, and public lawns.
The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Lahore issued an official directive to all zone directors, instructing them to enforce the ban strictly. The memo stated that directors are fully responsible for implementing the rules in their respective areas. Any violation may result in departmental action against the officers in charge.
The PHA emphasized that the ban aims to reduce accidents and enhance security in public spaces. Authorities highlighted that strict enforcement is necessary to protect citizens and prevent incidents during the festival.
Meanwhile, the Lahore Deputy Commissioner (DC) has officially announced that kite flying will be allowed in the city during Basant 2026, but only under controlled and regulated conditions. The announcement, made through Notification No. ADC(G)/2025/1190, specifies that kite flying will be permitted from 6th to 8th February 2026.
According to the notification, kite flying must follow strict rules regarding materials, size, and thread type. Every detail has been carefully regulated to ensure participantsโ safety and minimize risks. The rules also cover the manufacturing, trade, sale, and use of kite flying materials under the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Ordinance, 2025.
Authorities say the move balances tradition with public safety, allowing Lahore residents to enjoy Basant 2026 responsibly. The city administration and PHA will monitor all kite flying activities closely to ensure compliance with the rules.
Residents are urged to follow the guidelines and participate only in designated areas using approved materials. Officials believe that these measures will make Basant 2026 a safe, fun, and memorable festival for everyone while preserving the cultural spirit of the celebration.
