Marriyum Aurangzeb Holds Talks with ADB on Punjab Development Projects

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb met with a high-level delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to discuss ongoing and proposed Punjab Development Projects. The meeting focused on sectors including health, education, agriculture, flood management, and climate resilience.

The ADB delegation included Director AFR Jean Feng Zhang, Country Director Emma Fan, Program Officer Khayam Sohail Abbasi, and Nisanka Salgado. During the discussion, both sides exchanged ideas on development priorities and strategies for effective project implementation.

Marriyum Aurangzeb emphasized that under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, development initiatives are being carried out with transparency, digitization, and proper planning. She introduced the Punjab One Map, a comprehensive digital map covering land, underground assets, population, and infrastructure. The tool is designed to improve planning and management across all sectors.

On education and health, Aurangzeb said demand-based planning is underway for medical districts, modern cath labs, and educational facilities. She added that the Safe City Project will be completed in all 36 districts by June, alongside the delivery of 160,000 homes to citizens.

Under Punjab’s e-mobility vision, metro projects, e-buses, and e-bikes are being introduced in Gujranwala and Faisalabad. The Social Economic Registry is 98% complete, and 186 public services have already been digitized.

In agriculture, notable progress has been made in e-modernization, mechanization, agri-business malls, aquaculture, and shrimp farming. Farmers will receive 20,000 spreaders and mulchers this year to reduce production costs and improve sustainability.

The meeting also covered initiatives in flood management, irrigation, climate action plans, cold storage, logistics, and value addition. Punjab has established the region’s first climate observatory to monitor environmental trends.

The ADB delegation praised Punjab’s reforms, digital governance, and agricultural development. They expressed support for agriculture, value addition, exports, and fisheries.
