Quetta and large parts of Balochistan witnessed the second snowfall of the winter, bringing picturesque landscapes, icy winds, and operational challenges. While residents enjoyed the scenic weather, provincial and federal authorities took swift measures to keep roads open and manage emergencies.
The second snowfall covered Quetta, Kalat, Mastung, Pishin, Qila Saifullah, Ziarat, Kan Mehtarzai, Muslim Bagh, Qila Abdullah, Chaman, Chagai, and Noshki. Several inches of snow were reported in many areas, prompting citizens to layer up while enjoying the winter scenery. Intermittent rain was also recorded in Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur, Awaran, and Khuzdar, intensifying the cold conditions across the province.
National highways cleared
The National Highway Authority (NHA) deployed heavy machinery to clear snow and maintain traffic flow on key routes. Major highways connecting Quetta with Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Chaman, Taftan, and Rakhni were reopened for travel. NHA teams remained on duty throughout the snowfall to prevent blockages and ensure road safety.
Snowfall continues in Quetta
Quetta and surrounding areas continued to experience light to heavy snowfall, accompanied by strong, icy winds. Snowfall also resumed at Kozhak Top in Chaman district, prompting the PDMA to deploy machinery to restore road connectivity. Snow persisted in Mastung, Muslim Bagh, and Khanozai, keeping district administrations and emergency services on high alert.
More rain and snowfall expected
The Meteorological Department forecast additional rain and snow across Balochistan, including Quetta, on Monday and Tuesday. Mountainous northern districts are likely to remain under heavy snow, while other districts will experience cold and partly cloudy weather. Rainfall is expected in Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, and surrounding areas, with strong winds predicted along coastal districts.
PDMA on high alert
On the orders of Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) remains fully alert. Director General Jahanzeb Khan said all units are active for emergency response. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and take safety precautions.

The second snowfall caused temporary disruptions, including electricity outages across Quetta, affecting 24 feeders. QESCO and KESCO crews are on site, restoring power as weather conditions improve. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
