Islamabad Court Issues Non-Bailable Warrant Against CM Afridi in Cybercrime Case

Islamabad Court Issues Non-Bailable Warrant Against CM Afridi in Cybercrime Case

An Islamabad district and sessions court on Wednesday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. The warrant was issued due to Afridi’s repeated failure to appear in court regarding a cybercrime case.

Senior Civil Judge Abbas Shah issued the non-bailable warrant after Afridi did not attend the scheduled hearing despite being summoned. The court directed authorities to arrest Afridi and produce him before the court for further proceedings.

The case was registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). Afridi is accused of making statements that allegedly harmed the reputation of state institutions.

The court has adjourned further proceedings until February 10, giving authorities time to execute the non-bailable warrant and ensure Afridi’s appearance. Legal experts say non-bailable warrants are serious court orders requiring immediate action by law enforcement.

This development has attracted significant public and media attention, highlighting ongoing scrutiny of political figures involved in cybercrime and accountability cases. The issuance of a non-bailable warrant emphasizes the court’s firm stance on repeated non-appearance and non-compliance with judicial summons.

Authorities are expected to enforce the court’s orders strictly, while Afridi’s legal team may present arguments or seek remedies during the next hearing. The case under PECA reflects Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to monitor statements against state institutions and address potential misuse of electronic communication channels.
