Germany Announces Visa Options for IT Professionals in Pakistan

BERLIN โ€“ Germany has introduced major changes to its immigration system. The new rules aim to attract skilled IT professionals from around the world.

The updated framework focuses on simplifying residency pathways and improving visa clarity. These changes are designed to support the growing demand for tech talent in Germany.

Authorities say the reforms will make it easier for international workers to live and work in Germany. The new system also links residency options with job opportunities in the IT sector.

Salary thresholds have been officially set starting January 2026. These requirements vary depending on the visa category and professional experience.

One key pathway is the Residence Permit for Skilled Workers under Sections 18a and 18b. This option is for professionals with recognized academic or vocational qualifications.

Applicants must have a valid job offer from an employer in Germany. Those over 45 must meet a higher salary requirement or show pension security.

Approval from the Federal Employment Agency is also required under this route. It ensures that job placements meet national labor standards in Germany.

Another important option is the EU Blue Card under Section 18g. This is considered a fast-track route for highly skilled IT professionals.

Applicants must hold a university degree recognized in Germany and secure a relevant job offer. The minimum salary requirement is โ‚ฌ45,934.20 per year.

If the salary exceeds โ‚ฌ50,700, approval from the Federal Employment Agency is not required. This makes the process faster for top professionals in Germany.

For applicants without a university degree, experience-based options are also available. One route requires at least three years of IT experience within the last seven years.

A simplified tech route requires two years of experience within the last five years. Both options require a valid job offer in Germany and meeting salary conditions.

The government also allows flexibility under collective bargaining agreements. Employers following legal agreements may offer adjusted benefits while still complying with regulations in Germany.

Officials say these reforms aim to address the shortage of skilled IT workers. The goal is to strengthen Germany as a global technology and innovation hub.
