Why 13 Hospitals in Lahore Are on High Alert Ahead of Basant Festival

The Punjab Health Department has issued a high alert for 13 government hospitals in Lahore. The alert is ahead of the Basant festival, scheduled from February 6 to 8.

The department has directed all hospitals to ensure full staff presence during the three-day event. This includes doctors, nurses, and paramedical workers. The aim is to handle any medical emergencies quickly.

Authorities have also ordered an adequate supply of essential medicines. Hospitals must keep drips, vaccines, and surgical tools ready at all times. This step is meant to avoid shortages during peak emergency hours.

In addition, hospitals have been instructed to reserve special beds for emergency cases. Administrations must also prepare lists of blood donors. Arrangements for blood collection and storage must be completed in advance.

The Health Department stressed that all medical equipment should remain functional. This includes X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan, and MRI machines. Technical staff must be on standby to address any faults.

Communication systems are also part of the emergency plan. Hospitals must ensure that mobile and landline connections are active. Each hospital has been asked to submit a detailed emergency response plan to the department.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has released a code of conduct for the Basant festival. The celebrations will take place under strict rules. These instructions were issued under the direction of Chief Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The Deputy Commissioner of Lahore has granted a No Objection Certificate for the event. The approval allows celebrations only within the defined safety framework.

According to the code, the use of metal, chemical, or nylon-coated kite strings is banned. Loud music, DJ systems, and noise pollution are also not allowed. Authorities have imposed a complete ban on aerial firing and firearm display.

The code also forbids harassment, misbehavior, and indecent conduct. Organizers must ensure that rooftops are safe. Measures must be taken to prevent falls and electrical accidents.

Kite flying near airports, power lines, or sensitive sites is not permitted. The event is strictly non-commercial. Selling tickets or promoting brands is not allowed.

Officials have the authority to inspect at any time. In case of violations, the NOC will be cancelled immediately. Authorities believe these steps will help keep both citizens and hospitals prepared during the festival period.
