CM Maryam Clarifies: Kite Flying Allowed Only in Lahore During Three-Day Basant Festival

CM Maryam Clarifies Kite Flying Allowed Only in Lahore During Three-Day Basant Festival

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday clarified that kite flying will be allowed only in Lahore during the three-day Basant Festival starting January 6. The announcement comes as the provincial government prepares security and monitoring systems for the event.

Addressing an event at the Basant control room, CM Maryam said foolproof safety measures are being put in place. “A robust monitoring system has been established to make Basant safe,” she added, emphasizing public safety during the festival.

Her clarification followed a recent Punjab cabinet decision allowing permissible kite-flying materials in four additional districts — Faisalabad, Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Multan — to meet the demand for the festival. Despite the allowance, kite flying will be strictly limited to Lahore during the three-day celebrations.

CM Maryam highlighted that the Basant Festival is a beloved tradition in Punjab, which had been banned for nearly two decades. The provincial government lifted the ban last December under strict safety conditions, allowing citizens to celebrate responsibly.

“The Basant Festival is a beautiful festival of Punjab,” she said, urging parents to teach children the Punjabi language and take pride in their culture. The CM also highlighted her government’s achievements, including free heart surgeries for children and advancements in technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

She further stated that Punjab’s law and order situation has improved by 70%, and her administration is focused on providing state-of-the-art facilities for the public. CM Maryam also announced new legislation to penalize theft of manhole covers, with up to ten years’ imprisonment.
