Apple is preparing to launch a more affordable version of its next smartphone, according to a report by Bloomberg. The new model will be called the iPhone 17e. It will be introduced alongside upgrades to Siri, Apple’s voice assistant.
The iPhone 17e will follow last year’s iPhone 16e. That model was designed as a lower-cost option. It used older hardware to keep prices down. Apple now plans to improve this approach with better performance.
According to the report, the iPhone 17e will use the same processor as the standard iPhone 17. This means users will get faster speed at a lower price. The phone is also expected to include Apple’s own cellular and Wi-Fi chips. These chips are part of the company’s long-term plan to reduce reliance on external suppliers.
For the first time, a budget iPhone will support MagSafe wireless charging. This feature allows users to charge devices without cables. It also supports magnetic accessories.
Despite these upgrades, Apple is not expected to increase the price. The iPhone 17e is likely to launch at $599 or £599. This keeps it within reach for more buyers.
Earlier in September 2025, Apple revealed its full iPhone 17 lineup at a major event. The company introduced several new devices during the launch.
The biggest highlight was the iPhone Air. It is Apple’s thinnest phone so far, measuring only 5.6mm. Apple said the Air is part of a multi-year design strategy. It aims to change how smartphones look and feel.
Along with the Air, Apple also launched the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. These models came with better cameras and refined designs.
On the wearable side, Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 11. It includes 5G support and new health features. These include alerts for high blood pressure.
The Apple Watch Ultra 3 also debuted. It offers satellite connectivity and up to 42 hours of battery life. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch SE 3 gained an always-on display and a faster processor. It starts at $249.
