US President Donald Trump has reiterated that he helped prevent a potential nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan last year. Speaking in an interview with Fox Business on Tuesday, Trump said he used trade pressure, including tariffs, to stop conflicts around the world.
“I settled eight wars. At least six were settled because of tariffs,” Trump said. “I told them, ‘If you don’t settle this war, I’m going to charge you tariffs.’” He specifically referred to India and Pakistan, claiming that ten planes had been shot down and that the situation could have escalated into nuclear warfare.
Trump has repeatedly mentioned his intervention in the India-Pakistan standoff since May 2025. At his Mar-a-Lago residence in December 2025, he praised Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and said his actions helped save millions of lives.
“You know, eight planes were shot down. That war was starting to rage, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said I saved 10 million lives, maybe more,” Trump added during the event with Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth and Secretary of the Navy John Phelan.
According to reports, Trump claims he has helped prevent conflicts in multiple regions. The list includes wars involving Israel and Hamas, Israel and Iran, Pakistan and India, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Thailand and Cambodia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Serbia and Kosovo. Some of these conflicts were brief, though rooted in long-standing tensions.
Trump emphasized that his use of tariffs and diplomatic pressure was central to avoiding escalation. Observers note that while the claims remain controversial, the former president continues to highlight his role in international conflict prevention.
