The Punjab Govt has announced a series of relief measures ahead of Ramazan, aiming to support low-income families and workers during the holy month. The initiatives include price reductions on essential cooking items and direct financial assistance.
Consumers will benefit from a discount of Rs10 to Rs16 per litre on all ghee and cooking oil packs during Ramazan. Special Assistant Salma Butt said the move is designed to keep ghee and edible oil affordable and accessible across markets in the province.
Officials from the Punjab Food Authority emphasized that the reduced prices would not compromise the quality of edible oil. They highlighted the adoption of modern, cost-effective methods to lower trans-fat content and upgrade testing procedures to meet international standards. The authority also warned that strict action would be taken against any substandard products.
In addition to price cuts, the Punjab Govt has expanded its financial relief programs. Registered workers will now receive Rs10,000 in cash under the Ramazan package, up from Rs3,000 last year. This increase is intended to help families manage rising household expenses during the holy month.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced a Rs40 billion โNigehban Ramazan Packageโ for around four million deserving families. The program includes cash aid, discounted essential goods, and free iftar facilities at the tehsil level.
Officials say the distribution process will use biometric verification and digital payment systems to ensure transparency and timely delivery of assistance. Authorities highlighted that these measures are intended to limit inflationary pressures and ensure aid reaches the right beneficiaries.
The Punjab Govt stressed that the Ramazan relief initiatives reflect its commitment to supporting citizens during the month of fasting. Authorities encouraged families and workers to make use of the programs while assuring strict monitoring to maintain fairness and efficiency.
