Islamabad Court Extends Pre-Arrest Bail in Cases Against PTI Founder

The District and Sessions Court in Islamabad heard five criminal cases against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Monday. The cases were filed by former federal minister Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha.

The charges include attempted murder and four related matters. The Court ordered authorities not to arrest the PTI founder in these cases. It also issued similar protection for his wife, Bushra Bibi, until February 18.

The Court further extended the pre-arrest bail for both accused. This decision came after the PTI founder could not be produced before the judge. He was also not available through a video link.

The judge directed that the PTI founder must appear at the next hearing. He can attend either in person or through a video connection. The order aims to ensure his presence for proper legal proceedings.

The hearing was conducted by Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka. The session was adjourned because arguments could not be presented. The absence of the PTI founder and his lawyer, Salman Safdar, caused the delay.

Two assistant counsels represented the defense. Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry and Shamsa Kiani appeared on behalf of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi. They requested more time to prepare their arguments.

The Court accepted the request and set February 18 as the next date of hearing. Until then, both accused remain protected from arrest in the listed cases.

The PTI founder, Imran Khan, is currently facing several legal challenges. These include cases related to the May 9 incidents, alleged attempted murder, and claims of submitting fake financial receipts.

Bushra Bibi is also named in a separate case. She is accused of presenting forged documents to authorities. The prosecution claims these receipts were used to justify certain financial transactions.

Legal experts say the case remains sensitive due to its political nature. The outcome may influence future proceedings against senior political figures.
