Islamabad authorities will introduce M-Tag for motorcycles starting February 20. The system, already successful for cars, will now include all types of bikes.
Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon said motorcycle owners can collect M-Tags from 13 designated points across the city. Citizens must carry valid documents and identification cards to complete registration.
The initiative applies to standard motorcycles, bikias, and heavy bikes. Officials are urging residents to support the M-Tag campaign to improve traffic safety and efficiency.
To date, over 600,000 vehicles have already been issued M-Tags. Registration for bikias and online taxis is still ongoing. The system is part of wider efforts to streamline travel and reduce congestion in Islamabad.
The M-Tag system, initially introduced by the National Highways Authority (NHA) for motorway toll payments, enables cashless transactions. It allows vehicles quick lane access and removes the need for waiting in long queues.
Motorcycle owners in Islamabad can obtain M-Tags for Rs. 250. Authorities warned that vehicles without M-Tags may face fines if found on roads after the deadline.
The decision to introduce M-Tag for motorcycles follows positive feedback from car owners. It aims to enhance commuter convenience while strengthening enforcement of traffic rules.
Deputy Commissioner Memon encouraged all motorcycle owners to register promptly. He said the M-Tag initiative is a significant step toward a modern, cashless, and efficient transport system in the city.
With the introduction of M-Tag for motorcycles, Islamabad moves closer to a fully automated, safer, and faster urban travel environment. Authorities are committed to supporting citizens throughout the registration process.
The new phase will help reduce congestion at toll points, improve payment transparency, and ensure that all vehicles comply with city traffic regulations.
The authorities continue to monitor implementation and encourage residents to introduce M-Tag for motorcycles on time to avoid penalties.
This move marks a major milestone in Islamabadโs digital transport initiatives, expanding the benefits of M-Tags to all two-wheelers.
