Child killed, Four Injured in Gas Cylinder Blast at Karachi Apartment

KARACHI – A tragic gas cylinder explosion in North Nazimabad claimed one life and injured four others on Sunday. The incident occurred during Sehri in a residential building in Hyderi Block G.

According to rescue officials, a Child killed in the blast was initially reported as a seven-year-old. Later, authorities confirmed the victim as 15-year-old Burhan. The explosion took place in a ninth-floor flat and was heard across the neighborhood.

The powerful blast sparked a fire that quickly spread to a nearby apartment. Panic gripped residents, forcing many families to evacuate the building. Police and rescue teams reached the site soon after the explosion.

Four injured people were shifted to a hospital for treatment. They were identified as 30-year-old Fatima, four-year-old Anisa, 40-year-old Hanid, and 70-year-old Tasneem. Officials confirmed that the Child killed was trapped inside the flat when the fire broke out.

Firefighting teams faced difficulties due to the lack of a snorkel vehicle. Reaching the ninth floor proved challenging. As a result, the exterior of the affected flat suffered major damage. Four flats on the tenth floor were also impacted by the flames.

After several hours, firefighters managed to control the blaze. Cooling and search operations were completed before residents were allowed to return to their homes.

Police said early investigations suggest a gas leak caused the explosion. Authorities recovered two damaged gas cylinders from the site. Rescue officials confirmed that the building was not connected to a central gas supply, and residents were using cylinders.

Deputy Commissioner Central Toha Saleem said the Sindh Building Control Authority has been called for a technical inspection. Residents will only be allowed back after safety clearance. SSP Central Imran Khan stated that two flats were directly affected by the incident.

The Child killed in this explosion highlights ongoing safety concerns regarding gas cylinder use in residential buildings. Earlier this month, a similar gas leak blast in Soldier Bazaar led to a building collapse and multiple deaths.
