KANDY – Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has advised Pakistan to consider a tactical change ahead of the crucial Pak v Eng Super Eight match in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
In a post shared on X, Ashwin suggested that Fakhar Zaman should be moved to the middle order for the Pak v Eng encounter. He highlighted Fakhar’s ability to counter quality spin bowling during the middle overs.
Ashwin pointed out that Fakhar Zaman plays the sweep shot well. He also uses his feet effectively against spinners. According to him, this approach could prove useful against bowlers like Rashid Khan and Liam Dawson.
The former Indian cricketer said Nepal had success against Rashid Khan by applying similar tactics. He noted that other teams could learn from that strategy. Ashwin believes that if Pakistan are serious about their World Cup campaign, they should test this option in Pak v Eng.
The middle overs are often decisive in T20 matches. Teams that handle spin well usually gain control. In the upcoming Pak v Eng clash, England’s spin attack could play a key role. Fakhar’s aggressive style may help Pakistan maintain momentum during that phase.
Meanwhile, weather conditions are expected to remain clear for the Pak v Eng match at Pallekele Stadium. The Meteorological Department has forecast dry weather at 7pm local time in Kandy. There is no likelihood of rain, ensuring a full contest between the two sides.
This fixture carries significant importance. Pakistan’s previous Super Eight game was abandoned due to rain. As a result, both teams shared points. A win in Pak v Eng would strengthen Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the semi-finals.
Under tournament rules, the top two teams from each Super Eight group will advance to the knockout stage. With the competition entering its decisive phase, every match is crucial.
