The Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has introduced a new digital tax platform to modernize revenue collection. The system aims to improve transparency and simplify tax compliance.
The platform includes a Point of Sale (POS) invoicing system, IRIS modules, a Business Intelligence Revenue Dashboard, and a mobile application called Tax Asan App. The launch took place at a ceremony organized by the Inland Revenue Department in Mirpur.
Finance and Inland Revenue Minister Chaudhry Qasim Majeed described the initiative as a โrevolutionary and historicโ step for the stateโs tax system. He said the government is committed to building a user-friendly, technology-driven taxation framework aligned with international standards.
The minister emphasized that the digital tools are comprehensive, integrated, and future-oriented. He added they would strengthen governance, accountability, and monitoring of revenue collection.
Secretary Inland Revenue Chaudhry Abdul Rehman and Commissioners Basil Siddique (North) and Syed Ansar Ali (South) stated that the new system would help expand the tax base. They said the tools, including the Tax Asan App, would enhance compliance and improve revenue tracking across AJK.
Chaudhry Qasim Majeed highlighted that the Inland Revenue Department has been assigned a fiscal target of Rs.85 billion for the current year. He expressed confidence that the department would meet the goal and stressed the importance of uniform tax implementation in both North and South Zones.
POS systems have already been installed in the South Zone, with rollout in the North Zone underway. The minister urged citizens and businesses to use the Tax Asan App and other digital tools to fulfill their tax obligations responsibly.
He also announced the near completion of the Mirpur Dry Port and plans to upgrade the Bank of Azad Jammu and Kashmir into a scheduled bank.
Business leaders, including Umar Shahzad Jaral, President of the Mirpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, welcomed the reforms. They called the digital initiatives practical, progressive, and beneficial for businesses. Leaders pledged support for the governmentโs efforts to create a transparent and digitally empowered revenue system.
The AJK government affirmed its commitment to promoting industrial growth, reviving sick units, and protecting investors, while taking strict action against tax evasion and counterfeit production.
