Qatar’s prime minister and foreign minister has rejected Iran’s claim that recent attacks targeted only military assets. The response came during a phone conversation between Qatari and Iranian officials.
According to a statement from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussion took place between Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Abbas Araghchi.
Officials said the Qatari prime minister strongly rejected Iran’s assertion that its strikes were limited to United States military targets. He stated that the situation on the ground showed a different reality.
Civilian areas reportedly affected
During the call, the Qatari leadership highlighted that several civilian areas had been impacted. Authorities said the attacks struck locations inside the State of Qatar.
According to the statement, some of the affected areas were close to Hamad International Airport. The airport is considered a critical transportation hub for the country.
Officials also mentioned that vital infrastructure and residential neighborhoods were affected. Industrial zones connected to liquefied natural gas production were also reportedly located near the targeted areas.
The Qatari government emphasized that such strikes risk damaging facilities that play an important role in global energy supply.
Qatar raises sovereignty concerns
The Qatari prime minister described the attacks as a serious violation of the country’s sovereignty. He said the incident also contradicts key principles of international law.
Officials stressed that protecting civilian infrastructure is a fundamental rule during armed conflicts. Any attacks that threaten non-military areas raise serious international concerns.
