Punjab Government Extends Section 144 Across Province for Seven Days

The Punjab government has extended Section 144 across the province for seven days due to security concerns. Officials say the decision was taken after reports warning about possible terrorism and sectarian threats.

According to the Punjab Home Department, the new order will remain in force until March 14. Authorities believe the extension of Section 144 will help maintain public safety and prevent potential disturbances.

A notification issued by the department states that public gatherings, rallies, and protests are banned across the province. People are not allowed to organize gatherings at public places without prior permission from authorities.

Officials said the decision was made after intelligence reports suggested that certain gatherings could become targets of terrorism or sectarian violence. The government aims to reduce risks by limiting large public gatherings.

Despite the restrictions, some activities will remain exempt from the order. Gatherings related to weddings, funerals, and burial rites will not be affected by the enforcement of Section 144.

Similarly, meetings held at government and semi-government offices will continue as usual. Court proceedings and official duties will also remain exempt from the restrictions.

Law enforcement personnel performing official duties are not included in the ban. Police and security agencies will continue their regular operations to ensure public safety.

District administrations across Punjab have been directed to strictly enforce Section 144. Police officials have been asked to monitor public areas and prevent any unauthorized gatherings.

Authorities also announced a strict ban on displaying or carrying weapons in public places. The move is part of broader efforts to reduce security risks during the restriction period.

Officials say these measures are necessary to maintain law and order across the province. The government believes preventive steps can help avoid incidents that may threaten public safety.

Residents have been advised to cooperate with authorities and follow the guidelines issued under Section 144. Officials emphasized that the restrictions are temporary and aimed at protecting citizens.
