ISLAMABAD: Punjab’s flagship housing scheme, ‘Apni Chat, Apna Ghar’, has registered over 1.9 million individuals, officials confirmed. More than 1.135 million applications have been received to date.
During a briefing with Bilal Yasin, DG PHATA Skandar Zeeshan provided details on the scheme’s progress. So far, interest-free loans have been disbursed to 131,680 beneficiaries for home construction. An additional 18,375 individuals are expected to receive loans this month.
Across Punjab, 83,330 homes have been completed under the scheme, while 45,425 are currently under construction. To date, over Rs183 billion has been allocated for the program, with Rs8.4 billion recovered.
Minister Bilal Yasin noted that the scheme has set new benchmarks in service delivery. He highlighted that under the “Apni Chat, Apna Ghar” component, 2,000 families have been provided free plots. Ownership rights for deserving families are expected to be granted after Eid-ul-Fitr by the Chief Minister.
In 2024, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced a comprehensive plan to construct 100,000 houses for low-income individuals. During a meeting in Lahore, it was decided that over 3,000 houses will be built in each district to benefit disadvantaged families.
Officials emphasized that the program focuses on improving living standards and providing affordable housing across the province. The interest-free loan system aims to support citizens who cannot otherwise afford home construction.
The scheme has received wide public support due to its transparency and efficiency in implementation. Authorities continue to monitor progress and ensure timely completion of homes for registered beneficiaries.
