The Pakistani government has announced Four Holidays from March 20 to 23, covering Friday through Monday. These holidays coincide with the expected end of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
This year, Ramadan is likely to complete its full 30 days. Experts expect Eid to fall on Saturday, March 21. However, the final date will be confirmed by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. The announcement has kept many Pakistanis eagerly waiting.
Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department, Anjum Nazir, stated that the moon-sighting committee will meet in Islamabad on March 19. He explained that the new moon will be born at 6:23 AM Pakistani time on the same day. By sunset, the moon will be just 12 hours old.
According to experts, a moon this young cannot be seen with the naked eye. Even telescopes usually detect it only after 14 hours or more. Based on these calculations, the Met Department expects Ramadan to last all 30 days. This makes March 21 the likely first day of Shawwal and Eid, pending the official declaration.
The announcement of Four Holidays has already created excitement across the country. Families are preparing for extended gatherings, special meals, and festive celebrations. Shops, markets, and public spaces are expected to be busy as people make last-minute preparations.
Many citizens have welcomed the decision, noting that the long weekend provides a chance to travel and spend time with loved ones. Authorities have also urged people to follow safety guidelines during celebrations.
With the official Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announcement just around the corner, Pakistanis continue to watch the skies closely. The upcoming Four Holidays promise not only rest but also the joy of Eid festivities nationwide.
