Drone Incident Near Dubai Airport Causes Temporary Flight Disruptions

Authorities in Dubai said a fire near Dubai airport was brought under control on Monday after a drone attack in the area. The incident occurred close to Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest aviation hubs in the world.

Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported. However, the incident forced a temporary suspension of flights at Dubai airport while emergency teams responded to the situation.

According to the Dubai Media Office, the drone strike affected a fuel tank located near the airport area. Firefighters quickly arrived and worked to control the flames.

Authorities said the fire was eventually contained. However, a video shared by media outlets suggested the blaze at the nearby fuel depot was still burning earlier in the day.

The attack caused temporary disruptions to airport operations. Police also halted traffic on nearby roads and tunnels connected to Dubai airport as a precaution.

During the disruption, Emirates airline suspended some flights heading to the airport. Several aircraft were diverted to Al Maktoum International Airport, which also serves the city.

Officials have not confirmed when all flights will fully resume normal operations.

The incident comes during growing tensions in the Middle East. The ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States has disrupted air travel across the region.

Many countries have closed or restricted their airspace due to fears of missile and drone attacks. As a result, airlines have cancelled, delayed, or rerouted flights.

Global aviation markets have also been affected. Rising tensions have pushed fuel prices higher and created uncertainty for international airlines.

Mondayโ€™s attack marks the third incident involving Dubai airport since the conflict escalated on February 28. That was when Iran began retaliatory strikes targeting US bases in Gulf countries.

Since then, the region has faced a series of missile and drone attacks. Reports suggest more than 2,000 such strikes have targeted US military bases across Gulf Arab states.

Some attacks have also damaged civilian infrastructure. This has increased security concerns across the region.

The United Arab Emirates has faced several of these incidents. The country normalised relations with Israel in 2020, which has drawn attention during the current conflict.

Earlier this month, on March 11, two drones also fell near Dubai airport. That incident caused limited damage during overnight attacks across the Gulf region.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Security measures around Dubai airport have been strengthened to ensure the safety of travelers and airport staff.
