The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that all its branches will remain closed on March 23, 2026, in observance of Pakistan Day.
Following this directive, commercial banks across the country, including both public and private institutions, will also remain closed for the day. Customers will not have access to in-branch banking services.
In an official statement, the SBP confirmed that banking services nationwide will be unavailable on the holiday. The announcement follows the annual holiday schedule issued by the Cabinet Division, which officially recognizes March 23 as a public holiday across Pakistan.
Bank customers are advised to plan ahead, as ATMs, online banking, and other digital services may be affected during the closure. Transactions requiring branch visits should be completed before the holiday.
Financial institutions said they will resume normal operations on March 24, 2026. Businesses and individuals relying on banking services are urged to adjust their schedules accordingly.
The SBP also highlighted that international transactions processed through correspondent banks may experience delays due to the nationwide closure. Customers sending or receiving payments internationally should consider this in their planning.
Public awareness campaigns and media advisories have been issued to remind customers that branches will remain closed. Many banks are also posting notices on their websites and social media platforms to ensure customers are informed.
Authorities emphasized that the holiday closure is part of standard observance of Pakistan Day, and banking operations will resume promptly the following day.
This closure applies to all branches of commercial banks, including those in major cities like Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and smaller towns. Customers are encouraged to use digital banking services wherever possible.
The SBPโs announcement aims to ensure a smooth observance of Pakistan Day while giving bank employees the opportunity to celebrate the national holiday with their families.
Customers are advised to monitor official bank communications for any updates and plan financial activities in advance to avoid inconvenience.
