UAE Prepares for Extended Public Holiday for Eid al Adha 2026

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is preparing for one of its most celebrated holidays in 2026, with residents set to enjoy an extended break for Eid al Adha. The festival, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” honors Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. It is traditionally observed with prayers, charity, and family gatherings.

Astronomical predictions suggest that Eid al Adha will begin with Arafat Day on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. The main festival celebrations are expected to take place from Wednesday, 27 May, to Friday, 29 May. With the weekend included, residents could enjoy a six-day holiday, encouraging early travel planning and increased bookings across the country.

Officials note that exact dates depend on the moon sighting, but the extended holiday period is expected to be a major highlight of the UAE’s 2026 calendar. Many families plan trips and gatherings during this time, making it one of the busiest travel periods in the country.

During Eid al Adha, communities also engage in charitable activities, distributing food and aid to those in need. Mosques across the UAE will host special prayers, while residents prepare traditional meals and participate in cultural events. The festival fosters a sense of community and reinforces the spirit of giving and reflection.

Looking ahead, other key public holidays in the UAE for 2026 include Islamic New Year, predicted on Wednesday, 17 June, and UAE National Day (Eid Al Etihad) on Wednesday and Thursday, 2–3 December. Both holidays provide opportunities for residents to enjoy additional breaks and celebrate with family and friends.

Expected UAE Public Holidays 2026:

  • Eid al Adha: Arafat Day – Tuesday, 26 May; Festival – Wednesday, 27 May to Friday, 29 May (up to six-day break with weekend)
  • Islamic New Year: Wednesday, 17 June
