ISLAMABAD – Pakistani singer and composer Ali Sethi is set to release his highly anticipated album, Room Jhoom, on May 22. The album follows the global success of his hit single Pasoori, featuring Shae Gill, which became one of 2022’s most searched songs on Google and garnered over a billion views on YouTube.
Ali Sethi has gained international recognition for blending Eastern and Western musical styles. He has performed at prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, and participated in global music festivals after rising to fame through Coke Studio Pakistan.
The new album is a collaboration with American drummer and composer Gregory Rogrove. Room Jhoom promises a unique fusion of musical styles, combining soft Sufi influences with fast-paced Caribbean rhythms. The project highlights Sethi’s willingness to experiment beyond traditional musical frameworks.
In an Instagram post, Ali Sethi shared insights about the creative process behind the album. He explained that the project allowed him to explore new sounds while embracing a deeper, long-buried voice within. He highlighted the importance of freedom and pushing cultural boundaries in his music.
Sethi expressed gratitude to his collaborators, including Gregory Rogrove, Jay_is, and Jordan Katz, emphasizing that the album is “rooted in trust, collaboration, and intuition.” He also reflected on challenging social norms in South Asia, bridging the gap between South Asian and Latin American musical influences.
This album marks Ali Sethi’s second studio release, following his debut album Love Language, released in August last year. Born to journalists and politicians Najam Sethi and Jugnu Mohsin, Ali Sethi has consistently used his platform to innovate while staying connected to his cultural roots.
