LAHORE – The Punjab Health Department has taken strict notice of a viral video incident at Lady Willingdon Hospital in Lahore. The case has raised serious concerns about medical ethics and patient safety.
According to official reports, the video showed two groups of doctors allegedly competing to perform C-section surgeries in the same operating theatre. The footage quickly spread online, sparking public criticism and questions about professional conduct at Lady Willingdon Hospital.
On the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the health department issued show-cause notices to senior administrative officials of Lady Willingdon. Authorities said the incident reflected negligence and poor oversight at multiple levels.
The department also contacted the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). It recommended disciplinary action against five postgraduate doctors involved in recording the video. These include Dr. Tayyaba, Dr. Maham, Dr. Zainab, Dr. Ayesha, and Dr. Essa.
Several senior officials have been served notices. These include the former Medical Superintendent, senior consultants, registrars, and medical officers. The Head of Department has also been held accountable.
In addition, formal disciplinary proceedings have started against suspended MS Dr. Farah and others. Officials named include Dr. Uzma, Dr. Munir, Dr. Rutaba, and Dr. Munaza. Authorities believe there was administrative failure and lack of proper supervision.
The health department stated that all concerned individuals must submit written responses within seven days. They may also be required to appear in person during the inquiry process.
To ensure transparency, Secretary Law Asif Bilal Lodhi has been appointed as the hearing officer. Secretary Local Government Mian Shakeel Ahmed will also assist in the proceedings.
Notices have also been issued to other staff members. These include a women medical officer, charge nurses Iqra Hafeez and Fozia Rashid, and staff member Haseeb-ur-Rehman.
