ISLAMABAD – In a proactive measure to protect the public from soaring fuel costs, the Prime Minister of Pakistan has unveiled a Railways Relief Package. This initiative ensures that railway passengers will not face fare hikes despite rising diesel and petrol prices.
The announcement comes as global energy prices surge, affecting domestic transport costs. Private bus operators and freight services have been increasing fares, which often leads to higher prices for essential goods. The Railways Relief Package aims to prevent this “domino effect” and maintain affordable travel for citizens.
Under the Railways Relief Package, no increase will be applied to Economy or AC class fares. Freight charges will also remain stable, helping businesses transport goods without additional costs. The government will cover an estimated PKR 6 billion until June 30 to offset the financial impact on Pakistan Railways.
Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, praised the Prime Minister’s directive. He said the move ensures railway travel remains accessible and affordable, especially for daily commuters facing economic hardships. “The Prime Minister has won the hearts of passengers by making travel easier for everyone during these challenging times,” Abbasi stated.
The Railways Relief Package not only benefits everyday travelers but also supports the supply chain by keeping freight rates stable. This measure helps prevent further inflation of essential commodities, such as vegetables, milk, and grains, which are sensitive to transport costs.
With this initiative, Pakistan Railways offers a reliable and cost-effective alternative to road transport. Passengers can continue to travel without worrying about sudden fare increases, while businesses gain relief from rising logistics costs.
