PESHAWAR โ The PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a warning for district authorities following a forecast of widespread rain and thunderstorms from April 6 to 9, 2026.
According to the PDMA, a strong westerly wave is expected to impact multiple districts, bringing heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and snowfall in mountainous areas. The Meteorological Department predicts showers in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Balakot, Haripur, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, and surrounding districts.
The PDMA has highlighted the risk of landslides and flash floods, particularly in hilly regions. Urban flooding is also likely in plains, including Peshawar, Mardan, and Nowshera. Officials warned that strong winds and hailstorms could damage weaker structures, power poles, and solar panels.
Authorities have been advised to remain alert and monitor local weather updates closely. The PDMA has instructed district disaster management teams to prepare for emergency response, including evacuation plans in vulnerable areas.
Farmers have also been urged to take preventive measures to protect standing crops. The PDMA recommended securing agricultural fields and minimizing potential damage caused by heavy rainfall or hail.
Residents are advised to avoid low-lying areas during heavy rains. Precautions should also be taken near rivers and streams that could overflow during flash floods.
The alert comes as part of the PDMAโs proactive disaster management strategy. The authority continues to coordinate with local administrations, law enforcement, and rescue teams to ensure timely response and reduce potential harm to people and property.
Officials emphasized that the public should follow official guidelines and avoid traveling in affected areas unless necessary. The PDMA will continue monitoring weather developments and provide regular updates throughout the rainy period.
