KANPUR – A shocking case of dowry demand has emerged from Uttar Pradesh, where a woman accused her in-laws of making extreme demands after marriage. The case has raised serious concerns about ongoing dowry-related abuse.
According to reports, the woman married Nishant Kumar from Lucknow on June 22, 2025. At the time of the wedding, her family fulfilled a significant dowry demand. They provided 800,000 rupees in cash, along with jewelry and a car.
Despite this, the woman claims her life changed soon after marriage. She alleged that her in-laws began to mistreat her and interfere in her personal matters. The situation became more difficult when she discovered important facts were hidden from her before the wedding.
She stated that her husband suffers from a serious illness. He requires several medications daily. This condition was not disclosed by his family before marriage. She also claimed that her husband had a relationship with another woman, which his family already knew about.
The case took a disturbing turn when a new dowry demand was made. The woman alleged that her in-laws demanded either a kidney donation or three million rupees in cash for her husband’s treatment. This extreme dowry demand left her shocked and fearful.
Unable to cope with the pressure, she left her marital home. However, she claims that her jewelry and other valuables are still with her in-laws.
Following her complaint, police have registered a case against Nishant Kumar and his family. Authorities confirmed that an investigation is currently underway. They are reviewing all claims, including the repeated dowry demand and allegations of harassment.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of dowry demand in society. Despite strict laws, such cases continue to surface, raising concerns about enforcement and awareness.
