Union Berlin have made football history by appointing Marie-Louise Eta as interim head coach until the end of the season.
The decision follows the dismissal of Steffen Baumgart after the team’s 3-1 defeat to Heidenheim in the Bundesliga.
This appointment marks a historic milestone, as Eta becomes the first woman ever to take charge of a men’s Bundesliga team.
The 34-year-old coach steps in during a challenging period, with Union Berlin aiming to stabilize performances and improve their league standing.
Eta has already broken barriers in German football, previously becoming the first female assistant coach and first woman on the bench in the Bundesliga.
Having been part of the club’s coaching staff since 2023, she now leads the team in a landmark moment for both the club and global football.
