Second Round of US–Iran Talks Likely in Islamabad Or Geneva As Ceasefire Deadline Approaches

The United States and Iran are moving toward a possible new phase of dialogue as officials consider another Second Round of direct negotiations. The talks come after days of rising tensions and cautious diplomatic signals.

According to a Bloomberg report, the proposed Second Round of meetings may take place before the current two-week ceasefire ends. Sources say several locations are under review, including Islamabad and Geneva.

Officials familiar with the process said discussions are ongoing at multiple levels. Both sides are exploring options to restart talks aimed at reaching a broader agreement. A diplomat involved in mediation said that Tehran and Washington have already agreed in principle for a Second Round.

Mediators from Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey are working behind the scenes. Their goal is to narrow differences and support progress toward a lasting deal. These efforts are focused on ensuring that the Second Round takes place smoothly.

Insiders suggest the meeting could happen as early as Thursday. However, the final decision on timing and location has not been confirmed yet. Diplomatic sources say Islamabad remains a strong contender for hosting the Second Round.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has also expressed optimism. He said both sides may reach a conclusion in the upcoming Second Round of discussions. His remarks reflect growing regional expectations for progress.

From Iran, academic and policy voices have echoed similar views. Mohammad Eslami, a researcher at the University of Tehran, said talks could resume within the week. He added that Iran is maintaining contact with multiple international partners.

The White House has not yet issued an official statement on the latest developments. However, earlier remarks by US President Donald Trump suggested that Iran has shown interest in reaching an agreement.

He said Iran had reached out and indicated willingness to negotiate. These comments have added momentum to expectations surrounding the Second Round.

Financial markets have already responded to the diplomatic signals. Oil prices have eased as fears of wider conflict have reduced. Brent crude fell by 2.2 percent, settling at $97.20 per barrel.

Earlier in the week, prices had surged above $100 per barrel. That increase followed the breakdown of previous talks and rising military tensions.

Analysts say the outcome of the Second Round could significantly influence regional stability. For now, diplomatic channels remain active as both sides prepare for possible renewed engagement.
