Second Round of US-Iran Talks Expected in Islamabad Amid Rising Tensions

ISLAMABAD – A second round of US-Iran talks is likely to take place on Monday in Islamabad, according to US media reports citing Iranian sources. However, the United States has not officially confirmed the schedule.

The first round of US-Iran negotiations was also held in Islamabad earlier this month. The US delegation was led by Vice President JD Vance. It also included Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff.

On the Iranian side, the talks were led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. He was joined by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

After the initial meeting, both sides reached some early agreements. They also showed interest in continuing dialogue through another round of talks.

At the same time, tensions between the two countries remain high. US President Donald Trump warned that the current ceasefire may collapse soon. He said a long-term deal must be reached by Wednesday.

Speaking on Air Force One, Trump stated that he may not extend the ceasefire. He also confirmed that the US naval blockade on Iranian ports will continue. He warned that if talks fail, military action could resume.

In response, Iran issued strong warnings of its own. Ghalibaf said Iran could close the Strait of Hormuz if the blockade continues. This route is vital for global oil shipments.

Iran’s Defence Ministry also highlighted the fragile situation. Spokesman Reza Talaei-Nik said the strait is open only under current ceasefire conditions. He added that the situation could change quickly.

Despite the strong statements, some stability remains. Foreign Minister Araghchi confirmed that commercial shipping is still ongoing through the waterway. Trump also acknowledged that maritime traffic continues.

The US-Iran situation remains uncertain as both sides set firm conditions. The upcoming deadline is critical. It may decide whether diplomacy succeeds or tensions return to conflict.
