Health Ministry Rejects Claims of HIV/AIDS Surge in Islamabad

Health Ministry Rejects Claims of HIV/AIDS Surge in Islamabad

Pakistanโ€™s Ministry of National Health Services has rejected recent reports claiming an HIV/AIDS surge in Islamabad. Officials stated that such claims are inaccurate and not supported by data.

In an official statement, the ministry clarified that there is no epidemic situation in the capital. It said the number of HIV cases reported each month remains within normal limits. Authorities stressed that the idea of an HIV/AIDS surge is misleading.

Health officials explained that variations in case numbers are common. These changes should not be seen as signs of a growing outbreak. They added that increased awareness has encouraged more people to get tested.

According to the ministry, higher testing rates can lead to more detected cases. However, this does not mean there is an actual HIV/AIDS surge in the population. It simply reflects better screening and reporting.

Data collected from major health facilities supports this view. Records from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Polyclinic Hospital Islamabad, and AIDS centers show 618 registered patients. Out of these, 210 belong to Islamabad.

Officials clarified that not all reported cases originate from the capital. Many patients come from other regions for treatment. Therefore, linking all cases to Islamabad creates a false impression of an HIV/AIDS surge.

The ministry also highlighted that many cases are found in high-risk groups. These include drug users and individuals involved in unsafe practices. Authorities said targeted awareness and prevention programs are already in place.

Health experts emphasized that public awareness plays a key role in detection. As more people understand the risks, they are more likely to seek testing. This contributes to higher reported numbers without indicating an HIV/AIDS surge.

The ministry concluded by urging the public to rely on verified information. It advised against spreading unconfirmed reports that may cause unnecessary fear.

Officials reaffirmed their commitment to monitoring the situation closely. They also assured that preventive measures and healthcare support will continue to protect public health.
