ISLAMABAD โ€“ NADRA Launches Digital Firearm License System to Improve Services

The National Database and Registration Authority has introduced a new digital system for firearm licenses. The move aims to improve convenience and reduce delays for citizens. The NADRA system follows directives from the Ministry of Interior.

Under the previous system, all firearm licenses expired on December 31 each year. This caused a rush of renewal applications at the end of the year. It also created problems for license holders. Many people could not fully use their five-year license period.

The new NADRA system changes how validity is calculated. Licenses will now remain valid for five years from the date of issue. This means each person gets the full duration without early expiration.

Officials say the entire process is now fully digital. Citizens can apply, renew, and track their licenses online. This reduces paperwork and speeds up processing time. The goal is to make services more efficient and user-friendly.

Earlier, NADRA also made changes in Punjab to simplify the process. Biometric verification is now available through the Pak ID mobile app. This allows users to complete verification from home. It removes the need for repeated office visits.

Applicants can submit forms through the official Punjab Firearms License website. After submission, they can verify their identity using the app. This step ensures security while maintaining ease of access.

The Punjab Home Department had already stopped manual license processes in November 2025. This included renewals and computerization of old records. The decision was part of a broader plan to modernize the system.

Authorities also gave holders of manual licenses a final chance to switch to digital records. This step helps create a unified and secure database. It also reduces the risk of misuse or duplication.

Officials have asked for detailed reports on recent licensing activity. These include updates on computerized licenses and progress in the deweaponization campaign. Efforts to collect illegal weapons are also being reviewed.
