CII Approves Human Milk Bank Bill, Flags Concerns on Marital Assets Ruling

The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has approved in principle the Sindh government’s Milk Bank Bil, marking an important step in discussions on public health policy. The decision was taken during the Council’s 245th meeting, which was held online under the chairmanship of Allama Dr. Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naeemi.

According to reports, the Milk Bank Bil aims to establish a system for collecting and distributing human milk for infants in need. Officials say such initiatives can support newborns who are unable to receive adequate nutrition. However, the Council’s approval is subject to further review and detailed guidelines.

During the meeting, members also discussed a recent Islamabad High Court ruling related to marital assets. The Council expressed reservations over the decision and decided to write formal letters to the Chief Justice and the Speaker. Officials said the purpose is to seek clarification and ensure that legal interpretations remain aligned with Islamic principles.

The session also included discussions on national and regional matters. The Council paid tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces and appreciated their role in maintaining national security. Leadership efforts by senior officials were also acknowledged during the meeting.

In addition, the Council reviewed developments related to international issues. Members commented on regional tensions and appreciated the government’s efforts to promote peace. Concerns were also raised about a recent incident in London involving Allama Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, with calls for appropriate action.

The meeting further approved standard operating procedures prepared by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. These guidelines focus on the respectful recycling of sacred pages, ensuring proper handling of religious materials.

Officials noted that the session was conducted online as part of the federal government’s austerity policy. This approach aims to reduce expenses while maintaining regular institutional work.

Experts say the approval of the Milk Bank Bil could open new discussions in Pakistan. The concept of human milk banks is still developing in the country. Religious and ethical considerations remain important in shaping final policy decisions.

The Council emphasized that further consultation will take place before full implementation. The Milk Bank Bil will likely undergo additional review to address concerns and ensure compliance with religious guidelines.
