IHC Judges Transferred to Provincial High Courts After Acting President’s Approval

Islamabad: Acting President Yusuf Raza Gilani has approved the transfer of three judges from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to provincial high courts across Pakistan.

Following the approval, the Ministry of Law and Justice issued an official notification confirming the transfers. The decision is expected to affect judicial seniority in multiple courts.

According to the notification, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani has been transferred from the IHC to the Lahore High Court. After the move, he will rank 12th in seniority at the Lahore High Court.

Before the transfer, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani was the senior-most judge at the IHC. His transfer marks a major shift in the court’s seniority structure.

Justice Babar Sattar has been moved from the IHC to the Peshawar High Court. He will now hold the sixth position in the seniority list there.

Previously, Justice Babar Sattar ranked third in seniority at the Islamabad High Court.

Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz has also been transferred from the IHC to the Sindh High Court. She will now stand 16th in seniority at the Sindh High Court.

Before her transfer, she was ranked sixth among judges at the Islamabad High Court.

Earlier, the Judicial Commission had approved the transfer of these judges, according to an official statement. The decision was later finalized after receiving formal approval from Acting President Yusuf Raza Gilani.

The commission also withdrew some proposed transfers. The recommendation to transfer Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir to the Balochistan High Court was canceled.

Similarly, the proposal to transfer Justice Khadim Hussain to the Sindh High Court was also withdrawn.

Officials clarified that vacancies created through these transfers will not be treated as new appointments. Instead, the empty positions will be filled through future transfers under existing policy.
