The government has announced major reforms to improve the Passport service across the country. The decision aims to make the process faster, more transparent, and easier for citizens. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi shared the updates during an official meeting on Thursday.
According to the announcement, the processing time for a normal Passport has been reduced from 21 days to 14 days. Officials say this step will help applicants receive their documents more quickly. The move is part of broader efforts to improve public service delivery.
The government has also decided to introduce a fully cashless system at passport offices. This system will remove the need for cash payments. Authorities believe this change will reduce corruption and limit the role of agents. It is expected to make the Passport application process more transparent and convenient.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Talal Chaudhry and other representatives from the Ministry of Interior. Officials were directed to implement the cashless system within 15 days. They were also asked to ensure smooth execution across all offices.
In addition, authorities have been instructed to speed up work on introducing a business passport. The goal is to support professionals and entrepreneurs who travel frequently. The government also plans to improve the home delivery system for passports. This will allow applicants to receive their documents at their doorstep.
Officials emphasized the need to establish a dedicated passport authority. This step is expected to further strengthen the system and improve service quality. The government aims to build a more efficient and user-friendly structure for handling passport services.
Earlier, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports launched the SHIKRA system. The system, officially known as Secure Hybrid Intelligence for Knowledge-based Response Analytics, was introduced to modernize operations. It allows real-time monitoring of the entire passport process.
The system enables 24/7 supervision, from application submission to final delivery. It also supports both domestic and international passport operations. Authorities say this digital transformation will improve performance and reduce delays.
