Traders in Rawalpindi have raised concerns over the current Smart Lockdown timings in Punjab. They have demanded an extension in business hours. They say the existing schedule is causing financial losses.
The issue was highlighted during a press conference at the Rawalpindi Press Club. Representatives of the Central Association of Traders shared their concerns. They urged the government to review the current Smart Lockdown policy.
According to traders, shop closing time should be extended. They demanded that shops remain open until 10:00 pm instead of 8:00 pm. They also asked for longer hours for hotels and restaurants. They suggested operations should continue until midnight.
Traders said the current Smart Lockdown timings were designed for winter. In winter, evenings come earlier. However, they said the situation has changed in summer. Now, people prefer shopping after sunset due to heat.
They explained that early closure of markets is causing problems. Many customers are unable to visit shops after work. Employees who finish their jobs in the evening also face difficulties.
Business owners said they are suffering heavy financial losses. They believe the current Smart Lockdown schedule is reducing customer flow. This is directly affecting daily sales and income.
The traders also called for a reduction in petroleum product prices. They said high fuel costs are adding pressure on both businesses and customers.
They warned that if their demands are ignored, they may start protests. The protest movement could spread across Rawalpindi and other parts of Punjab.
Traders urged the government to reconsider the policy. They said there should be a balance between public safety and economic activity. They also highlighted the need to adjust Smart Lockdown timings during the ongoing heatwave.
