Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a major plan to improve access to essential goods. The Punjab CM set July as the deadline to complete twenty-seven new convenience markets across the province. The announcement came during a meeting held in Lahore.
The Punjab CM reviewed progress on the project during the session. Officials briefed her on timelines and development work. They confirmed that construction is moving forward in multiple districts. The aim is to ensure timely completion before the set deadline.
According to the briefing, thirteen โSahulat on-the-goโ markets will also be established. These smaller markets will serve people in different areas. They are designed to provide quick and easy access to daily-use items.
Officials shared that the project will support economic growth. Around 1,300 new businesses are expected to open through these markets. The initiative will also create more than 600 direct jobs. Authorities estimate that over 90 million people will benefit every year.
The Punjab CM was informed about additional facilities for shopkeepers. These include free electricity and sanitation services. This support is expected to reduce operational costs for small businesses. As a result, prices for customers may remain affordable.
Security arrangements were also discussed during the meeting. Officials said centralized CCTV monitoring will be used across all markets. This system will help save around 53 million rupees annually. It will also improve safety for visitors and shopkeepers.
Speaking during the meeting, the Punjab CM highlighted the main goal of the project. She said these markets will offer quality goods at affordable prices. She also stressed the importance of maintaining a clean and family-friendly environment.
