A tragic incident occurred in Punjab’s Dera Ghazi Khan when a classroom roof collapsed at a private school. The school roof collapse caused the death of four young students and injured around 20 others.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, the incident happened around 11:52 am. The school roof collapse took place at The Little Scholars School located between V and W blocks of the city. Emergency teams reached the site shortly after the alert.
Rescue officials confirmed that four bodies were recovered from the debris. The deceased children included Ghania Zohra (8), Masoom Fatima (5), Dua Aimen (6), and Muhammad Abdullah (6). The news has deeply shocked the local community.
Several students and staff members were injured in the incident. Among the injured were teachers, students, and workers. They were shifted to Allama Iqbal Teaching Hospital for urgent treatment.
Authorities said the school roof collapse happened during ongoing construction activity. Heavy material placed on the roof reportedly increased the load on the structure. This led to the sudden collapse of the classroom roof.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took notice of the incident. She ordered a detailed report from the authorities. She also directed officials to ensure proper medical care for the injured children.
Local administration officials, including the commissioner and police officers, visited the site. They monitored rescue operations and reviewed the situation on the ground. Emergency services were actively engaged in clearing the debris.
Following the school roof collapse, an emergency was declared in all government hospitals in DG Khan. This step was taken to ensure immediate treatment for all victims.
District officials later confirmed that the school owner has been arrested. A case has been registered against those responsible for negligence. Investigations are currently underway.
Authorities also revealed that nearly 780 students were enrolled in the school. Questions have been raised about safety standards and building approvals.
Officials are also investigating the fitness certificate issued for the building. The administration has promised strict action against all responsible parties.
