Karachi Heatwave Claims 12 Lives in 24 Hours, Rescue Officials Confirm

At least 12 people have died in the last 24 hours due to severe weather conditions in the city. Officials confirmed that the deaths are linked to the ongoing Karachi heatwave. Most victims were brought to hospitals in critical condition.

Rescue officials said all deaths were caused by heatstroke. The situation has raised serious concern across the city. The impact of the Karachi heatwave has been felt in many residential and commercial areas.

Among the deceased, four individuals were reported as drug addicts. Bodies were recovered from several locations. These include Clifton, Liaquatabad, Super Highway, Surjani, Defence Phase 8, Baldia, Manghopir, and Gulshan-e-Hadeed.

Some victims have been identified. Others remain unknown at this stage. Identified individuals include 50-year-old Dur e Muhammad and 55-year-old Abdul Wadood.

All bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Legal formalities are being completed. Some bodies were handed over to families for burial arrangements.

Officials confirmed that heat-related deaths have increased. Over the past two days, the total number has reached 14. The Karachi heatwave continues to create pressure on health and emergency services.

Meanwhile, the weather remains hot and dry in the city. The Met Office reported a slight drop in temperature compared to the previous day.

The current temperature is around 35 degrees Celsius. It is expected to rise between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius during the day. This is lower than Mondayโ€™s extreme heat.

Humidity levels are around 20 percent. The weather department described conditions as hot and dry. The Karachi heatwave remains active despite minor temperature changes.

Monday was recorded as the hottest day of the year so far. Temperatures reached 44.1ยฐC, which is significantly above normal levels. Officials said this was 7.8ยฐC higher than average.

The Met Office has warned of another heatwave in Sindh starting May 7. A new spell of rising temperatures is also expected in Karachi from May 13.

Authorities have also stated that no rainfall is expected in May. Weather models show continued dry conditions. The ongoing Karachi heatwave may continue to affect daily life in the coming days.
