Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a new system to tackle online Harassment and digital bullying in the province, promising strict action against those involved in targeting women online.
Speaking at a ceremony and convocation held at Lahore College for Women University, the chief minister said the Punjab government was committed to making the province safer for women. She stressed that there would be zero tolerance for any form of Harassment against women.
Maryam Nawaz said the government would not remain silent until those responsible for harassing women were identified, arrested, and brought before the law. She added that women should feel safe both in public spaces and on digital platforms.
The chief minister announced that a dedicated online system was being developed to deal with online Harassment complaints and cases of cyberbullying. According to her, the identities and information of complainants would remain completely confidential under the new system.
She also proposed the installation of panic buttons for women in different areas and called for the creation of virtual support centres to provide assistance and protection.
Maryam Nawaz urged parents to listen carefully when girls speak about Harassment or abuse. She said families should support women instead of ignoring their concerns or remaining silent.
During her address, the chief minister highlighted the increasing role of women in Punjab’s administration and public sector. She stated that women were now serving as divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, and district police officers in the province.
She also praised women serving in the Punjab cabinet and said women’s participation was essential for the country’s progress and development.
Maryam Nawaz shared personal memories connected to Lahore College for Women University and spoke about her own political journey. She said she never planned to enter politics but considered competing and succeeding in a male-dominated field a significant achievement.
The chief minister also discussed several development initiatives launched by the Punjab government. She said 100,000 houses had been completed under the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar programme. She added that 100,000 students had already received merit scholarships.
She further announced plans to distribute 100,000 additional electric bikes to students next year. New sports gymnasiums, AI centres, and computer labs were also announced during the event.
Maryam Nawaz said the government was focusing on infrastructure, law and order, education, and economic development in Punjab. She admitted that solving all issues would take time but said efforts were continuing.
The chief minister also spoke about national unity and regional diplomacy. She claimed Pakistan had recently played a diplomatic role between the United States and Iran and helped reduce tensions between the two countries.

Concluding her speech, Maryam Nawaz reflected on the hardships she faced during political and legal battles in recent years. She said the journey was difficult but taught her resilience and courage in challenging times.
