Derbyshire Falcons have signed Pakistan left-arm fast bowler Akif Javed for the upcoming Vitality Blast T20 2026 season.
The county club confirmed that Akif Javed will replace fellow Pakistani cricketer Sufiyan Muqeem for the first half of the T20 tournament.
Derbyshire had earlier announced Sufiyan Muqeem as part of their squad for the Vitality Blast. However, the spinner will miss the opening phase of the T20 competition due to international commitments.
The club shared the update through an official statement. It also welcomed Akif Javed to the squad ahead of the new season.
Akif, 25, brings strong experience in franchise cricket. He has previously worked under Derbyshire head coach Mickey Arthur. The two were together during their time with the Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League and Ajman Titans in the Abu Dhabi T10 in 2025.
The club highlighted Akif’s strong bowling performances in those tournaments. He was among the leading wicket-takers during the Abu Dhabi T10 competition.
Akif Javed has also represented Pakistan at the international level. He has played three One-Day Internationals for the national side.
In those matches, he claimed seven wickets at an average of 23.57. His best performance included a four-wicket haul.
The left-arm pacer also has valuable franchise cricket experience. He has played in both the Pakistan Super League and Bangladesh Premier League.
Across five PSL seasons, Akif has represented four different franchises. During that period, he picked up 34 wickets in 27 matches.
In the Bangladesh Premier League, he has taken 28 wickets in 19 appearances across three editions.
After the announcement, Akif expressed his excitement about joining Derbyshire for the Vitality Blast T20 season.
He said he is looking forward to playing in the competition for the first time. He also shared his excitement about reuniting with Mickey Arthur.
Akif added that he wants to entertain Derbyshire supporters and help the team win matches.
He also praised the quality of players in the squad and said he is eager to play alongside them.
The Vitality Blast T20 2026 season is scheduled to run from May 22 to July 18.
